BRASS INSTRUMENTS are usually made of brass. Imagine that! But sometimes are made of other metals or even wood, tusk, horn, or shell. Brass players make sounds from their instruments by blowing into the mouthpiece of the instrument. The musician's lips are like the reeds of the woodwinds.
Some of the brass instruments include the trumpet, horn, trombone, and the tuba. The orchestra usually has 1-2 of each type of brass. Brass instruments are loud and are often used in military bands, which usually play outside.
Brass instruments are long metal tubes that flare out at the end opposite the mouth piece. The tubes are bent and folded into compact shapes so they are easier to hold. The trombone is unique in that it has a slider that the musician moves to change the notes.
